Good Field Shaping Up For Wolverine Handicap Money Broker, Chain Reaction, Second Avenue in Saturday Race B. DON FAIR Stafj Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 9. The 0,000 Wolverine Handicap, one mile and one-eighth stake for three-year-olds and older, will have its second running next Saturday afternoon and all indications point to a crack field for the middle distance test. The Wolverine, inaugurated ih 1949 at the old Fair Grounds course by the Michigan Racing Association, went to Jacob Shers Frere Jacques that year while Pellicle and Castel Beau finished second and third, respev-tively. The race was not run the next fou, years but was restored to the local stakes program this season. Handicapper Charles J. McLennan recently posted the Wolverine weight assignments and G and G Stables Money Broker drew the top impost of 124 pounds. The locally-owned colt, a four-year-old son of Half Crown and Ohartreuse n., won the 1953 Florida Derby and he was successful here this spring in the Col. F. M. Alger Memorial Handicap. The Tomlinson star registered successfully in the Prince of Wales Plate, Achievement Handicap, Quebec Queens Plate, Whittier Park Handicap, Canadian Derby, Speers Handicap, Breeders Stakes and the Durham Cup Handicap. Trainer Jimmy S. Jones, Tomlinson stable conditioner, recently announced that jockey Willie Zakoor will have the mount on his charge in the Wolverine Handicap. Other Likely Starters While the aforementioned trio probably will come in for the major share of support in the half-holiday headliner, several others eligible for the stake are capable of making it rough for the high weights with the running of "big races."
