Mahplay Looms Favorite In ThistleDown Sprint Creech Ace Ran Third in Monday Outing; Rigor Mortis Returning THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 9. The Talent Scout Purse at six furlongs headlines the Thursday card at this suburban Cleveland course. Miss Ar-lene Tye, a recent winner of Arthur Godfreys talent scout show will be in attendance and will present a trophy to the winning owner following the race. The feature has attracted a field of 12 and two horses are on the "also eligible" list. Heading the field is Mrs. A. M. Creechs Mahplay, who will probably be the. post time choice. Mahplay has run twice thussfar at the meeting and will be looking for his first tally. He last started here on Monday and, after looming the most dangerous a furlong out, hung badly in the final sixteenth of a mile and had to be satisfied with show money. That was the second time that the gelding had been to the races in three days for he was a starter in the Discovery Handicap on Saturday in which he was fifth, beaten three and one-half lengths by Buddy Hamars game Lotus Eater. Before shipping here to ThistleDown, Mahplay had raced with success at Churchill Downs. Slated to ppose the Creech colorbearer are Efcee, Blenmint, Rigor Mortis, Overdone, Consus, Make Haste, Hobad, Jofield, Golden Tempest, Bold Gypsy, Bold Rogue, Gatyup and Lundi. Much interest will befocused in the return to the racing wars of Richard Mc-Connells Rigor Mortis, who at one time was one of the most feared handicap performers at Randall Park and "at nearby Waterford. Trainer Norman L. Haymaker has taken great pains with this horse and it has been well over a year since the gelding has been to the races. According to word from the dockers, he looks as fit as ever and is expected to run in a formidable effort. Make Haste, representing Mrs. M. Paul, will be making her first start since the close of Aspot Park and, off one of her better races, could make trouble for Mahplay. Make Haste will be ridden by Willie Clark and picks up 110 pounds under the conditions of the race. Both Consus and George Sacks Jofield will be making their first starts at the session, but have both been working well. Another first timer at the meeting is Norman Scavas Blenmint, who was the hard luck horse of the Randall Park meeting last year. Blenmint .will be ridden by Joe Servis and is slated to carry 112 pounds if the popular Philadelphian can make the weight.
