Damms smart-stepping four-year-old filly, Arab Actress, made- a-show of the field of horses, colts and geldings opposed to her in the featured Hammond Purse here this afternoon. Going i. her best form and showing the way from start to finish, the daughter of Burg-El-Arab registered by three and one-half lengths to travel the one-mile distance in 1:37. Second place went to The Eagle well known for his exploits on the turf in this area, and who was making his seasonal debut here. The Eagle finished eight lengths in advance of Force of Arms, who, hi turn, beat Dance Nsing by seven lengths for the third place. Arab Actress was the shortest-priced winner of the session, paying .80. Arab Actress was making her second start here. In her prior outing she was trimmed a half-length by Hasty House Farms double stakes winner at the session Pomace, but she forced the latter to do his best. Today she was again ridden by jockey William McKinley Cook, and the boy had time to take several glances back in the stretch to see how the others were doing. Cook was not required to show his best riding skill to score with the filly That is, he did not have to use the whip He did a fine job of rating. Ridgefleet, who finished second, was gaining at the end, however. Jo-Clare, the favorite, had some bad racing luck and was unplaced. The Blue Miss, with a switch in riders from John Ralph Adams to the latters father, known as Johnny, overcame difficulty to take the fifth race going away. Adams nursed his charge when she was in close quarters early, brought her to the outside in the stretch to avoid further difficulty, and she won by two lengths going away from Torch of Iran, who made the pace. The distance was seven furlongs. Ladolee, the favorite, was unplaced.
