Mr. Monica Two-Length Winner at River Downs Some 250 Members of Cuvier Press Club Take In Sport By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June - 9. Today was the Cuvier Press Clubs day at River Downs and one of the Queen Citys older social organizations, celebrated their annual outing when some 250 members of the club attended the eight-race program. Miss Dottie Mack, television star, presented the Cuvier Press Club trophy to the winning owner of the sixth race, which is honored by the program. The upward of 5,200 fans on hand were treated to racing under bright sunny skies but as a result of the rans of yesterday and last night the track remained in an "off" condition. Jockey Norman Cartwright drove Mrs. B, Harrells Mr. Monica to his fourth victory of the season and his first victory over this course. In the opener it was also the 10-year-old San Monica offsprings first outing and he was sent the six panels in the muddiest going in 1:16 flat to be two lengths the best of W. H. Wilsons Deficit, who had jockey Charles Huntley aboard. Ziggity, a four-year-old Warlock gelding, who races for Mrs. R. Buirley, was the second winner of the day and completed a 1.80 Daily Double, the second smallest Double of the meeting. Jockey R. Reynolds sent him six furlongs in 1:14 and again the standard two lengths separated him and his closest rival, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Maxwells Dear Moose. H. H. The 3-to-2 favorite in the betting and jockey W. D. Lucas coasted to a four-length victory after taking the top at the start and was never in any serious danger of being threatened. R. J. Dienst, one of the owners of River Downs of Ohio, Inc., and head of I the River Divide Farm, arrived on the I scene for an afternoon of thoroughbred I racing. Mr. Dienst commutes by private I plane from his home in Columbus to River Downs several times a week. I
