Smart Choice Successful Rockingham Park Choice Sidell Colorbearer Overtakes Go Go Go to Register by Half By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent ROCKINGHAM PARK, Salem, N. H., June 9. Morrie Sidells Smart Choice lived up to expectations of the majority of the 7,005 patrons who installed him as an even-money choice in the featured Milford Purse at Rockingham Park today. The Sir Jim James colt had to be superbly handled by the veteran Earl Gross to overcome the lead established by R. "Dick" Gottsmans Go Go Go and registered by a half length in the mile and a sixteenth test. Four lengths farther back Red Head Stables Futuresque was third, a like number of lengths ahead of J. and P. Venutis Pipe of Peace. Oakhurst Farms Rose Beauty was the only other starter in the Milford and was soundly beaten after showing brief speed. Smart Choice became the second favorite of the afternoon to succeed and paid .00 while traveling the middle distance in 1:43 under his top impost of 118 pounds. It marked the second straight victory at the "Rock" for the Sidell colt. By virtue of the ,100 earned for the triumph, Smart Choice has now gleaned ,200 for the year. Go Go Go was sent out to set the pace in the feature and fulfilled his mission in grand style as he was clocked in :23, :48, 1:12, arid still held the lead for a mile in 1:36. Smart Choice was the only threat to the leader as the pair entered the stretch a half length apart. In a determined effort, the Gottsman gelding increased his margin to a length passing the furlong pole but Smart Choice was not to be denied and finally gained command inside the final sixteenth. Futuresque, considered the main danger in the wagering, broke slower than usual and was sent, outside at the first turn, worked his way up along the inside to gain good position at the three-furlong pole. It was not the Questionnaire geldings day as he failed to make up any ground despite hugging the inner rail with a mild challenge into the stretch.
