NICODEM drew clear on the turns, tired badly in the final sixteenth and just lasted over JUNE J. The latter was slow to gain best stride and then closed willingly in the middle of the track. SIX THIRTY closed gamely after being far back most of the trip. KING CARE rallied in the latter going. SKY MINSTRELS rally did not menace the top ones. ZYBIE tired, as did NOT JOE. The latter lacked a rally. NARROW MARGIN raced evenly. BRIEFCASE showed little. MINK GAL was never a contender. MILLIES BABE quit. SHARP MARK turned in a miserable performance and did not keep a true course through the stretch. The start was delayed four minutes when the gate on the sixth stall would not lock and it was necessary to change several of the post position, therefore not using the sixth stall. LITTLE IMP raced as a team with WHIFFENPOOF along the backstretch, bore out slightly entering the stretch and, then in the final sixteenth of a mile, was increasing his advantage under mild urging. WHIFFENPOOF forced the pace while on the backstretch, swung wide entering the stretch, but was no match for the top one in the final drive. SHAMROCK, slow to gain best stride as usual, rallied insufficiently. MR. SKIP moved along from the outside, but lacked the necessary qualifications. SHAG TAILS weakened. HOLD DOR was never a factor. PICK AND PLAY showed little. CODED MESSAGE was never in contention. BLENMINT weakened after trying unsuccessfully to gain the lead in the early going to aid his stablemate. MR. SKIP.
