Fiye Stakes, Eight Overnight Handicaps at Wheeling Downs WHEELING, W. Va., June 26. Five stake races and .eight overnight handicaps with purses ranging from ,500 to 0,000 will be run during, the 61-day summer meeting that opens July 24 at Wheeling Downs, officials announced today. Richest event is the William G. Lias Handicap for 0,000 added, one mile and a sixteenth test for four-year-olds and upward, the feature on closing day, Oct. 2. Next in value is the ,000 Labor Day Handicap for three-yearrolds and upward, also at one mile and a sixteenth. The total contemplated purse distribution will be 83,500 with the minimum for any race being ,000. The scheduled features follow: Saturday, July 31 Vacation Handicap, ,000. Saturday, August 7 Woodlands Handicap, ,500. Saturday, August 14 McCollogh Handicap, ,500. Saturday, August 21 Dapper Dan Handicap, ,000. Saturday, August 28 Zane Handicap, ,500. Saturday, September 4 Endurance No. 1 Handicap, mile and five sixteenths, ,500. Saturday, September 11. Laconia Handicap, ,500. Saturday, September 18 Endurance No. 2 Handicap, mile and five furlongs, ,500. Saturday, September 25 Tri- State Handicap, ,000. Saturday, October 2 Endurance No. 3 Handicap, two miles and one sixteenth, ,500. Eight races will be run daily.
