Nine Youngsters In Detroit Dash Bumpsy Up, Wolverine and Svidhod in Field Vying at Five and Half Furlongs DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 26. The Democratic Womens Club Purse, a five and one-half furlongs condition race for two-year-olds, headlines, an attractive program scheduled for Monday at this course. Nine of the better juveniles quartered at the local oval are entered in the dash and they represent eight interests, the North Downs Farm having named an entry, Miss Stifle, 113, and Iil Shrimpie, 116 pounds. Early choices for the Monday feature are I. J. Collins Bumpsy Up, Mrs. J3. E. Dale Shaffers Svidhod, and the G and G Stables Timely Story. Bumpsy U finished third here June 16 behind Dogoon and Fleet Path in a five furlong overnight event in which the E. Gay Drake homebred colt equaled the :58 track record. Timely Story, third in ChurchillSDowns Debutante Stakes and a good class winner at Keene-land, worked well for the Monday test while Svidhod, who won her initial success at Detroit in May, recently breezed five-eighths mile in 1:01. Gonzalez to Ride Svidhod Svidhod, a daughter of Priam II. and Sweet Woman, by Roman, will shoulder 113 pounds and she is to have the saddle services of Manuel Gonzalez. Bumpsy Up, 116 pounds under the allowances, is to be handled by Forrest Kaelin while jockey Robert4 Lee Baird will pilot Timely Story, a well-made filly, the ge" of Mighty Story and Timely Tune, pegged at 113 pounds. Grace Kosibas Wolverine, Edwin K. Thomas Brown Monk, P. J. McMullens Drafting Room, and Eastview Stables Eta-mate, all will take up 116-pound burdens in the feature. Brown Monk won over a fair field here last Thursday afternoon, stepping five and one-half furlongs in 1:06. Wolverine will be ridden Monday by Lois Cook, Willie Zakoor is engaged for Brown Monk, Tommy Barrow rides Drafting Room aqd Louis Pafundi will be astride Etamate. Jockey Harold Keene will have the mount on one of the North Downs Farm stable starters, Miss Stifle, a Woodbine Park track record holder, or Lil Shrimpie, who graduated from the maiden ranks at the Toronto track before his shipment to the Motor City. Several well-filled supporting numbers are listed for decision on the Monday card and excellent sport appears in store for MRA patrons. Perhaps the best of the secondary offerings is the six-furlong fifth, which matches a capacity field of three-year-olds. Cojoc, Pigeonette, One Gamble, Vyr, Wicked Girl, Miss Boxer, Tiger Cat, War Secretary and Nowaday Girl are some of the better second-year racers entered in the dash.
