1 Chicago Cardinals to Field One of Fastest Teams in NFL When the Chicago Cardinals were drafting at the National Football League meeting this year, one of head coach Joe Sty-dahars first and foremost thoughts was the selection of speed, speed and more speed. With that in mind, Stydahar picked four backs who can run the 100-yard dash anywhere from 9.5 seconds to 10 seconds flat. One of the fastest of the four is halfback Les Goble, of Alfred U., who sent in his signed contract Saturday. Goble, whose fastest time for the 100-yard dash is 9.7, was the Cards thirteenth draft choice. He finished second in the National AAU meet last year. During the past season he played both ways and is regarded as an excellent pass defense man in addition to being an exceptionally dangerous ball carrier. In 1953 he carried the ball 87 times for a total of 700 yards, an average of 8.5 yards per carry. That 700 yards was gained in six games, five of which Alfred, won, prior to the season being snowed out. Les is 22 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs 150 pounds. He will report to the Cardinals training camp at Lake Forest College on July 18 along with all other rookies and veteran centers and quarterbacks.
