B. Gallivans Trainer License Is Withdrawn Irish Stewards Take Action After Upadees Win in Queen Anne Special to Daily Racing Form DUBLIN, Ireland, June 26 Reuters. The stewards of the Irish Turf Club and Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee sprung a surprise today by withdrawing the trainers license from Mr. Barney Galliyan who trained the winner of the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot last week. The second shock was the official an-nouncment that the Irish jockey Tommy Burns, who piloted Upadee at Ascot, had relinquished his license to ride. A notice in todays Irish Racing Calendar states "Stewards, of the Turf Club and of -the INHS Committee interviewed Mr. B. Galli-van, trainer, and T. Burns jockey and authorized agent for trainer at The Cur-ragh on Wednesday, June 23, with regard to the notice in the Racing Calendar official journal of the British Jockey Club relative to the running of Upadee in the Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot on June 15. They noted that Mr. Gallivan was not present at Ascot and that T. Burns had no explanation to offer when interviewed by the stewards of the meeting. The. stewards of the Turf Club and of the INHS1 committee heard evidence from Mr. T. McCairns, owner, Mr. Gallivan, T. Burns, Maj. R. Turner, handicapper, and Mr. D. Bulger, stewards secretary. "They considered that Galiivan had not been exercising adequate supervision over the horses in his stable and withdrew his license to train." Gallivan has held a trainers license in Ireland for several years but had not pre-vibus to the Ascot victory won a race in England. Upadee was unplaced in three races in Ireland prior to the Ascot success. Burns, who has been riding for over 40 years, twice retired to take up training but each time returned to the saddle. He bred Kopi, who won the 1929 Irish Derby. Burns was the oldest jockey riding regularly in England and Ireland.
