Hasty Hasty Road Road Gets Gets Up Up to to Win Win Wright; Wright; Greatest Greatest Takes Takes Bull Bull Dog Dog Hi-Weight Hi-Weight Favorite at Arlington Leads Bushers Beam Past Judges 1 Crowd of 22,879 Out on Hot Afternoon to See Preakness Winner Display His Speed By CHARLES HATTON ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 26. Responding courageously to Johnny Adams urging in the final furlong,, Hasty Road gave his legions of Chicago admirers a rare thrill this humid afternoon as he wore down Eugene Constantin, Jr.s, Bushers Beam and captured the Warren Wright Memorial by the margin of his own length. Coming from far off the early pace, Walmacs Hasseyampa got on terms with Bushers Beam in the last strides, but dropped- a nose verdict on the post for the secondary award. Another length away was Old Forge, fourth in a classy starting field of 12. The Preakness winner carried topweight of 124 pounds ??n -6 bulk of suPPrfc. returning only ?f20 in the tote, and he went over the distance in 1:22, just two-fifths behind the track record. Hasty Road won decisively enough, but it was necessary for Adams to dig into him with the whip about the furlong pole where Bushers Beam was outrunning his mount and showing no signs of weakening On other occasions the Roman colt has appeared to sulk under the whip, but he came on willingly today. The Reuben representative was conceding the second and third to finish eight pounds, and came nonchalantly back to the winners enclosure the richer by ,100. This swelled 1 his total earnings to 11,432. Swinging around the long home turn, Mr. Prosecutor resigned and drifted rearward and Hasty Road began his move outside Bushers Beam. His progress was slower than many expected or than Adams liked apparently, and Bushers Beam had enough left to still be winging along on the lead before him coming to the furlong pole At this juncture Adams felt forced to stir up his mount and he met with an immediate response, the big blaze-faced going to Bushers Beam in a few strides and wearing him down all through the last sixteenth to be a length clear and drawing off at the line. Hasseyampa ran an excellent race after a very sluggish beginning. He picked up beaten horses entering the stretch and in the final furlong produced a sharp burst that would surely have landed the place in another stride. Revolt, of whom many expected much, was never a serious factor, nor were any of the others ever really in the hunt. Dave Erb rode the winner of the initial encounter in the two-year-old Some Question, a colt owned by Taylorchest Stable and making his second start. Some Question was in third place in the early running and went to the front in the stretch. Quizzed was second and Texas Bulldog third. Big Power, the favorite, had early speed but tired. The distance was five and one-half furlongs. Arabian Queen was the first of two winners sent to the post for owner Sam E. Wilson, Jr., by trainer Willie Crump. The other was King Phalanx, who took the fourth race. Arabian Queen put up a good battle to beat Black Main, the second choice, narrowly in the second race and complete a 17.20 Daily Double. Notable, the favorite, was fourth. King Phalanx was badly outrun in the forepart of his race, but turned on the power in the last quarter to win going away from Golden King in the six-horse field. The Wilson racer was an odds-on : favorite and paid .40. He was ridden by Brooks, while Permane steered Arabian Queen. Parador, a winner at Lincoln Fields, was favored in the third event and came right back to beat a small band of two-year-olds. It was a five and a half furlong dash and Parador took after Intelligent in the stretch to catch him near the end. Georgian drew a good play in this, but showed nothing to warrant the confidence displayed in him. Brooks was the winning rider. The fifth race was at five and one-half furlongs on the turf, and Red Speed, racing for the Jacnot Stable, lasted long enough to hold Stoner Creek. The latter trailed in the first part of the event, but closed fastest of all and Red Speeds margin at the end was but half a length. Red Speed, ridden by apprentice Tom ONeil, ran within four-fifths of a second of the track record. The second odds-on choice of the day was successful when Mimi Mine, owned by Mrs. Herbert Herff , took the sixth race, but the margin was close. Matter of fact, the filly just got up in the last stride to edge out Dixie Flyer, who made the early pace. It was virtually .a two-horse race all the way, but the tussle between the pacesetters in the stretch was a thrilling one. Mimi Mipe was ridden by Steve Brooks for that jockeys third success of the afternoon. The filly paid .80 and the distance was one mile.
