FLARESPUR was disqualified for bumping and forcing PAVION into close quarters and he was placed second. PAVION was under pressure while gradually wearing down JUNALUSKA, opened a clear lead disposing of that one in the stretch, but then was bumped twice and carried down to the rail by FLARESPUR and just missed. YARN could not reach the pace under brisk urging from the start. JUNALUSKA was hard ridden setting the early pace and faltered. DEVIL FLYER could not keep up. The latter, outrun and slow responding, came between horses in the stretch drive and finished with a rush. SUNNYMAN loomed boldly when set down for the drive, but attempted to lug in and hung. CHIEF LOCO, a sharp factor from the beginning, was slightly impeded when MUZZLE cut over to the rail entering the stretch and, after a mild bid, hung. MUZZLE, taken back after a fast .start and slightly wide on the first turn, drove to the front on the final, turn, but lugged in to the rail and weakened.
