Sixty-Six Outstanding Runners Named For 0,000 Michigan Mile on July 9 High Gun, Helioscope, Spur On, Second Avenue, Artismo, Commonwealth on Fine List DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 22. Sixty-six thoroughbreds, comprising most of the equine aristocracy of the nation, are nominated for the 1955 Michigan Mile; the 0,000 added classic to be renewed at the local course on July 9. Included in the list of nominees is virtually every older stakes horse who has enjoyed any degree of-success in the East or. Middle West this season such winners as High Gun, Helioscope, Mark-Ye-Well, Artismo, Sea O Erin, Mister Black, Black Metal, Joe Jones and Due de Fer, among others. Also on the list released by the Detroit RaGe Course today are two former Michigan Mile champions, Spur On 1954 and Second Avenue 1953. With them are the two horses who ran second, Precious Stone 1954 and Fljay 1953. The Michigan Mile, richest race of the Wolverine Sate nason, is for horses three years old and older at a distance of a flat mile. Weights are assigned under allowance conditions, with top weight 128 pounds. On the list of three-year-olds appear the names of Trim Destiny, Tile King, Daylight Express, Prince Noor and Commonwealth. Hasty JHouse Farm of Toledo had the largest group of nominees, five; Sea O Erin, Mister Black, Platan, Ruhe and Prince Noor. T. Alie Grissom of Detroit named a trio: By Far, Money Broker and My Fault. Others who entered three are: M. H. VanBerg of Nebraska Endon, Knights Reward, Vantage, Ralph A. Parachek Tile King, Best Fleet, Rommel and J. N. Monaghan Farms Co. Scent, Pelouse, Fly Wheel. I In the 1954 running, 16 thoroughbreds met in the Mile, with Bernard W. Landys Spur On winning by a neck over Precious Stone, with Social Outcast third. The purse was 1,925 for the winning owner. In 1953, first year the purse was raised to 0,000 added, the victor was T.
