Pennsylvania Rowing Crews To Compete in English Races NEW YORK, N. Y., June 22 UP. Two University of Pennsylvania crews left for England today to compete in the Royal Henley regatta on the Thames, June 29-July 2. The eastern lightweight championship crew, which left for London from Idlewild Airport, will compete for the Thames Challenge Cup" currently held by the Massachusetts Institute, of Technology. Penn crews captured the cup in 1951 and 1952. The Penn heavyweight crew will compete for the Grand Challenge Cup for the first time since 1901. Red and Blue lightweights finished second to the Leander Rowing Club of Great Britain 54 years ago. The heavyweight crew boarded the Queen Mary for London today. Shells for both crews will be shipped by boat. The Rusian crew, winner of the Grand Cup event last year, was expected to furnish the stiffest competition.
