PALM TREE was in slightly close quarters rounding the first turn, but settled into a contending position on the backstretch, wrested command when ready and evenly held the opposition safe in the final stages.. NIGHT BAKER, away slowly, circled wide rallying from the far turn and loomed boldly in the stretch, but hung. PUNKIN VINE dropped back from a good start, rallied between horses on the stretch turn, then hung. MR. FIRST was lightly urged racing to the pace, opened a clear lead between calls, but weakened under punishment. NECKTIE easily set the pace for a half mile, then tired. ATHENA rushed between horses into contention at the first turn, continued evenly to take a clear lead at the half mile and, after increasing her advantage, was -ridden out. EASTER PRINCE was far back for a half mile, as usual, circled horses in the stretch and finished with a rush. BLAZING HOME could not stay with the winner on the backstretch, drifted out under punishment on the final turn and hung. TIP II. and MARYLAND LINE closed with belated courage. HIYA BABE tired. FAT BOY weakened under pressure. BRASS RING showed nothing. Attendance. 12.587; Total Mutuel Pool, ,068,835.
