Phils Assign Two Prospects To Three Rivers Farm Club PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 22 UP . The Philadelphia Phillies today announced the signing of two young players for the Three Rivers team of the Provincial League. They are Arlen Barber, 21, former catcher for. Springfield Mass. College, and first baseman Fred L. Hopke, 18., who just graduated from Irvington, N. J., high school. Barber, a six-foot, 180-pounder, was picked as the outstanding player in the Pan-American baseball tourney this spring. He lives in Orange, Mass. Hopke, a strapping 215-pounder, stands six-foot, two -inches and was on the New Jersey All-State high school team last year. He batted .567. Both are ."good prospects," a Phillies spokesman said.
