Advocates of "class in the dam" as the best guide to breeding successful race horses gained additional ammunition Saturday when Honeys Alibi captured the 0,000 Chicagoan at Balmoral. The three-year-old Alibhai colt is the first foal of his dam, the brilliant California-bred Honeymoon. The latter is the second greatest mon-ey-winning mare with produce old enough to race. Only Gallor-ette, whose first foal is the stakes-winning Mile Lorette, stands above her. Actually, Honeymoon . is fifth among all mares, butBe-witchs witchs first first foal foal is is a a yearling: yearling; witchs first first foal foal is is a a yearling: yearling; Sickles Image was bred for the first time this year; and Next Move wasnt retired until 1953. On Trust, the leading money-winning horse of the Hyperion male line, will remain here at Mereworth Farm for several more years as a result of a contract just signed by his owner. Earl Stice and Sons, and Mereworth. The son of Alibhai, who was bred to a few mares in California his first two seasons in stud, was sent to Kentucky for the 1953 season and has been standing at Mereworth since that time. His first Kentucky-sired yearling will be sold this year. Agreeable Business-Breeding Association Mrs. Walter J. Salmon and Walter J. Salmon, Jr., who manage the Mereworth operation, said they were more than pleased to continue to stand tn Trust. "We are pleased to continue this association," said T. E. Stice. "It is very gratifying to us to know that On Trust is in such good hands." Five years ago at the dispersal of the stock of W. E. Caskey, Coldstream Stud purchased three mares. Charley Kenney, who was managing the Shaffer nursery at the time, bought one for his father, the late Dr. William Kenney. Coldstream got Dandilly, who went on to win stakes; Bramble Bug, and Sweet Woman carrying the two-year-old filly champion Sweet Patootie. Kenney obtained the dam of Saturdays- Shevlin Stakes winner, Gold Box. Pandora, the mare selected by Kenney, was an unrated three-year-old at the time. Dr. Kenney first bred her to Fighting Fox, and her first foal is Play Possum, a good winner in California. He next sent Pandora to Heliopolis. However, Dr. Kenney died late in 1951 and the resulting foal, Gold Box, arrived the following spring. Last year Charlie sold a Roman colt out of the mare at the Keeneland Summer Sales to agent Paul Ebelhardt for 5,500. And he and his mother now have a yearling three-quarter brother of Gold Box, by Olym-pia; the mare has a Noor colt by her side and is in foal to Turn-To. - Dr. Fritz Haag, who is currently in, the Blue Grass studying stallion fertility, will discuss "Certain Chemical Characteristics of Seminal Fluid and their Relation to Stallion Fertility"t at a luncheon meeting of the Thoroughbred Club of America in the Lafayette hotel, Saturday at 12:15 pjn.
