DIXIANA PAIR ONE-TWO Shortstop and Radiogram Dominate Running of Juvenile Race. Son of High Time Runs Five Furlongs in 1 :00 % Over Fast Track — Droop Wins Opener. -DETROIT, Mich., May 22— High Time, sire of Sarazen and many offspring which have particip-ted in Detroit racing, sent out a-pair of sparkling youngsters from his last crop of foals to carry off first and second honors in the best offering as the Motor City meeting entered the first full week of its spring and summer season at the Fair Grounds this afternoon. Shortstop and Radiogram, two gelded son of the illustrious sire under the Dixiana colors of Charles T. Fisher, local patron, led a good field of juveniles to the end of five furlongs in the third race. Axelson, bearing James C. Ellis silks, was third, five lengths back of Radiogram, which "was slightly more than a length back of Shortstop. Mellowmoon, SudieGreenock and the C. LeRoy King entry of Pari-Curtis and Pari-Ernest, followed the leading quartet in the named order. The Dixiana entry was held at odds-on, paying .40 for . OVERCAST SKIES. Overcast skies and a track left in good condition from rains last night prevailed for the first two races, but the track was at its best for the two-year-old dash. Shortstops time of 1:00% was very creditable, considering the fact that the son of High Time — Flystick won as Joe Jacobs elected. A large crowd was present and the Dixi-na score was the second for the favorites. Axelson was the first in motion, but Shortstop soon supplanted him and the Dixiana speedster enjoyed a length lead over Radiogram going into the upper turn. After increasing his advantage over his stablemate, Shortstop was inclined to loaf, and Jacobs was forced to shake him up in the stretch. Responding in fine style, the winner again attained a good lead and the finish found him .well in hand. Axelson tired in the last stages, but lasted to lead Mellowmoon by a, neck at the close. HOMAN VICTORY. Miss Mint Dr.. , three-year-old daughter of Kai Feng, carried A. D. Homans silks to her first victory when she was an easy winner of the fourth race. This event was one of the three races engaging fillies and mares and was at i,ix furlongs. Manamaid, a "fielder" was the runner-up, three lengths back and the same dista ce before Toms Lady, the favorite, which beat Pipers Tune by a nose for minor honors. -Droop, flaunting the Detroit-owned colors of Fred M. Alger, Jr., gained a narrow victory in the first race when she lasted to beat the fast-finishing Highminded by a nose at the end of six furlongs. The latter, also from Continued on thirty-fifth page. DIXIANA PAIR ONE-TWO Continued from first page. the local Dixiana stable, -was two lengths before Masked Plane, the third horse. Sis Quinlan had the speed to carry her before the eleven others until entering the stretch, where Droop, ridden by Jack Bry-son, took command. After drawing clear, Droop tired, and Highminded, which was brought to ±he outside of her, would have garnered hopors in another stride. Droop was the favorite, with Masked Plane next in demand.
