1 DETROIT TURF NOTES f s — 4 Duval Headley, trainer of the main division of the Hal Price Headley stable that is quartered at Belmont Park, flew from New York to visit with Mrs. Headley and his young son. He returned to New York Monday. R. L. Stivers, widely known Kentucky breeder and tobacco warehouseman, arrived from his home at Lexington for an indefinite visit. The Stivers horses are resting at Lexington awaiting the opening of the Latonia meeting. A come-back effort will be made by Willie Carroll, who reports himself down to 110 pounds. Carroll has applied for a license and hopes to resume riding within a week. The shipment Ralph Mcllvain brought here last week from Louisville for F. H. Williamson, Miami and Michigan sportsman, who races his horses under the name of Indian Lake Stable, includes Inviting, For Romance, Radio Gold, My Crest, Maenerva, Chance King and Malmaison. The promising apprentice Charles Wells, whose contract was purchased by Williamson from Warren Wright, master of Calumet Farm, Lexington, Ky., several weeks ago, will do most of the riding for the establishment. Word was received here Monday by A. M. Olsen, who raced the consistent plater Gaelic, that the horse died at Lampasas, Texas, several days ago. The horse which was sent to Texas from New Orleans to enter the stud, was a local favorite. After spending a short vacation at his home in Arlington, Texas, R. R. Greenlee, whose horses have been quartered here for some time, arrived Monday and took over the training of his string. The contract Conn Smythe held on Frank McTague, promising apprentice, was turned over to A. J. Halliwell, prominent Toronto, Canada, sportsman. Halliwell has eight horses here in charge of Elmer Dubble. A. D. Steele, trainer of the Imperial Farms horses, announced he had taken a call on the services of jockey Mario Quintero. Pehamis and Bernard F. joined the main division of the I. J. Collins stable Monday. Both horses filled engagements Saturday at Beulah Park. The four-year-old Magic Winnie, property of H. Cherrington, of Pontiac, Mich., arrived Monday from Fairmount Park in charge of trainer H. E. Smith.
