PLATE TO ARCHWORTH Englands King and Queen Among 40,000 Watching 80th Renewal. King George Presents Guineas and Trophy to Owner C. G. McCullagh After Finish of Woodbine Stake. TORONTO, Ont., May 22.— Archworth, sturdy son of Worthmore and Archipelago, racing before their majesties, King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth, in the eightieth running of the historic Kings Plate, carried the silks of C. George McCullagh to an easy triumph. Ridden by S. D. Birley, he set all his own pace to leave his nearest rival ten lengths in the rear. He raced the nine furlongs in the time of 1:54%, one-fifth second off the record for the race held by the Parkwood Stables Horometer, and estabished in 1934. Carrying his speed he traversed the distance in the fractional time of :23%, :48%, 1:13% and 1:40% over a good racing strip. Sea General took the place honors when he drove into second place to defeat the Park-wood Stables Sky Runner by a head margin. Fourth place went to Mrs. R. E. Websters Syngo Bay. RECEIVES PURSE. A crowd of 40,000 jammed the Woodbine course for the running, which netted the winner ,750 and fifty guineas, a gift of His Majesty. Following the running of the race the King and Queen left the regal box and went to a special stand in the infield, where C. G. McCullagh was presented and received the royal purse of the golden guineas. Heavy clouds hung over the course for the running. There was a delay of six minutes at the start when Jelwell and Arch-worth continually broke through. When they were sent on their way they left in perfect alignment. Archworth breaking from the extreme outside, got away very fast and as the stewards stand was reached held a clear lead and went to the inside. On the first turn Sea Cadet met sharp interference, while Syngo Bay was slightly bumped. Going to the back stretch Arch- Continued on thirty-fifth page. Leaving the back stretch and coming to the final quarter, Birley gave him a breather and, calling on him again through the last quarter, he drew away and was again in hand at the end. Sea General was well back for the first half mile of the journey, then, working his way up and closing gamely, outfinished Sky Runner in the drive. The latter raced in second place from the start and only gave way to Sea General in the final strides.
