DELAY INAUGURAL CLOSING Entries for First Feature at North Randall Accepted to Wednesday. Weights to Be Allotted Next Thursday— Bad Weather Delays Construction Work on New Barns. CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 22.— Because of the movement of many stables to the Cleveland Jockey Clubs North Randall course over the week-end and causing a delay in the arrival of nominations for the ,500 added Inaugural Handicap, which will headline the opening-day program, racing secretary Julius G. Reeder announced here today that the time of closing has been set back until Wednesday. Originally the deadline for making nominations to the feature attraction, first of the list of eight stakes included in the new tracks program, was Saturday at midnight. Considering the hubbub that attends the shipment of thoroughbreds "from various points, many of whose destination is North Randall, Reeder decided to afford owners sufficient time to file their entry. The weights will be allotted a day later as a consequence. However, the remaining seven stakes fixtures on the fare will close six days in advance of the scheduled date of running and the weights announced three days before then. Reeder expressed confidence that a well-matched field will be brought together in the Inaugural, even if no additional entries are received in the mails or from horsemen arriving in the next two days. Inclement weather has been somewhat of a deterrent factor insofar as the construction of the new barns are concerned. However, only three, more structures, consisting of eighty-four stalls each, remain to be erected. With the completion of this there will be a total of 1,603 stalls for the housing of thoroughbreds, which definitely will be overtaxed. Rains of Saturday and Sunday hampered the carpenters engaged in the erection of frames for the barns, but they soon transferred their activities to the interior of the grandstand and clubhouse finishings. Under the direction of track superintendent Matt Nelson, who is also supervising the construction work, everything is expected to be in readiness and in spick-and-span order for the racing enthusiasts of Cleveland and the surrounding communities. Secretary Reeder and his staff of assistants will open their offices Tuesday morning to handle the details of the registration of horses and the applications for licenses. The crew that will assist Reeder in his secretarial duties are Tommy Steele, Robert McAuliffe and William J. Shelley, while presiding steward Samuel C. Nuckols is expected to put in his appearance at the same time to pass on the application of trainer and jockey licenses. With this work in progress North Randall will become a scene of bristling activity, and the details preceding the actual racing will be shaped up for the ushering in of the first running race meeting in the history of thirty-year-old North Randall. The course itself presents an entirely different pi.cture than it did prior to this year. Some of the numerous improvements which I have been made for the comfort of the patrons of racing are the spacious clubhouse and an addition to the rambling grandstand, fronted by terraces and walks.
