TWO STAKES AT DETROIT CLOSING DURING THIS WEEK DETROIT, Mich., May 22.— Nominations for the St. Clair Stakes, the first of the eleven fixtures to be renewed during the Detroit season and the feature for Saturdays program, close tomorrow. The dash, over five furlongs, carries ,000 in added money and is open to two-year-olds. Closing on Wednesday is the Col. Alger Memorial Handicap. It is the first of two stakes carrying ,000 in added money and will be offered as the headline attraction on Memorial Day. The. other stakes endowed with the same amount of money is the Frontier Handicap. The Alger, open for three-year-olds and upward, will be run over one and one-sixteenth miles, and in addition to attracting the best of the handicap stars here, it is expected to engage several invaders from Chicago, Cleveland and Woodbine Park. Andy Grumpere left today for Cleveland and Ghicago, where he will interest horsemen in the race.
