114 IN ARLINGTON FUTURITY Large Number Remain Eligible After the Third Payment. Rich Juvenile Race to Be Decided at Big North Side Track on July 29— May Gross 2,710. One hundred and fourteen two-year-olds, an increase of ten over last year, remained eligible for the 0,000 added Arlington Futurity after payment of third and final fees May 15, it was announced by Major Louis A. Beard, director of racing at Arlington Park today. The Arlington Futurity, to be run at the Northside course on Saturday, July 29, will gross 2,710 and will net the winner 9,615 if fifteen start. Last year with 110 nominations and ten starters Mrs. Helen Payne Whitneys Thingumabob, later destroyed after an accident at Saratoga, earned 1,110 as the Futuritys winner. Besides the handsome endowment to the winner, the winning owner will also receive a fourteen-carat gold replica of the historic Coronation Cup won in England in 1929 by Mrs. John Hertz Reigh Count. The -second horse will earn ,000, the third ,000 and the fourth ,500. BREEDERS PRIZES. Breeders will also receive handsome prizes. The breeder of the winner will receive ,500, the second horse 50 and the third horse 50. The breeder of the winner will be presented with another gold Coronation Cup replica named in honor of the memory of Admiral Cary T. Grayson, who before his death in 1938 was a staunch friend of Arlington Park racing. The Futurity is for two-year-old colts, geldings and fillies at six furlongs. It was inaugurated in 1932 and won by Ladysman in that year. Far Star won it in 1933, Toro Nancy in 1934, Grand Slam in 1935 and Case Ace in 1936. Tiger and Teddys Comet raced to a dead heat in the 1937 Futurity and Thingumabob won it in 1938. Supporting the Futurity on July 22 will be the ,000 added Arlington Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a quarter. Nominations for this stake and four others— the Hyde Park Stakes, Matron Handicap, Stars and Stripes Handicap and the Inaugural Handicap — close on June 1.
