DAY FOR BENEVOLENT SOCIETY Horsemens Welfare Association to Profit From One Days Proceeds During Meeting at Detroit. DETROIT, Mich., May 22.— The Horsemen Benevolent Society that has done much for the welfare of horsemen racing at the Detroit track will receive the proceeds from one day of racing during the Detroit meeting. The day has not been selected, but it probably will be during the latter part of next month. William J. Dowling, assistant racing commissioner, will serve as a patrol judge during the Detroit meeting. He was selected by president and general manager Clarence E. Lehr and his appointment was passed upon by racing commissioner Joe D. Frost. A check of the stables, including quarters secured at the liding academy on Nine Mile Road and in the tent in the north end of the stabling area, reveals 1,160 horses ready for Detroit competition. This is the largest number of horses to be stabled here since the 123-day meeting of 1934. The Powers Electx*onic Control Corporation installed a new high speed camera for the Detroit spring and summer meeting. The electrical beams that opened the shutters on the old camera have been removed.
