r e ; r and e E 5 1 1 I L s o r a Yankees Option Veteran Page To Farm Club at Kansas City NEW YORK, N. Y., May 16 UP.— The New York Yankees today sent Joe Page, once baseballs greatest relief pitcher, to their Kansas City farm club in the American Association. AH clubs in the American and Na-y tional Leagues waived on the sore-armed southpaw, so that the Yankees were able to send him to Kansas City on option, subject to 24-hour recall. The Yankees also returned pitcher Max Peterson to Toronto, thus trim-l ming their roster to the 25-player limit. Actually, the Yankees have 26, but Billy Martin does not count against the player limit, as he is a service returnee. Page did not appear in a single game this season despite assurances from physicians at Johns Hopkins Hospital earlier this spring that the soreness in his arm would disappear. The soreness traced back to a hip injury Page sustained last July when he slipped off the mound while pitching against the Washington Senators. Last year he won only three games while losing seven. He will be the highest paid player in the minors, as he signed a 1951 contract calling for 2,500.
