Mr. Trouble Heads Field at Belmont Shoulders 122 Pounds as He Engages Uncle Edgar, Bull Page and Gaffery BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 16. — In place of a stake offering tomorrow, the Westchester Racing Association is presenting New York Athletic Club day, with some 2,000 festive members of that organization expected to make their annual collective descent upon Belmont Park. The feature race is the NY.A.C. H. L. Lindquist Handicap, a classified event for a ,500 purse at seven furlongs. Seven have been named for this extended dash, headed by C. V. Whitneys Mr. Trouble with 122 pounds. The chestnut son of Mahmoud, who has never quite lived up to his potentialities, finished third in the Churchill Downs Handicap last out. Mr. Trouble will be opposed by Marise Farms Uncle Edgar, 120; E. P. Taylors Bull Page, 117; Foxcatcher Farms Gaffery, 112; Putnam Stables Sky Miracle, 109; Mrs. Ada L. Rices Danada Gift, 107, and Cressom Farms Betty Lamar, 104. Eddie Arcaro will ride Mr. Trouble, which will give him additional followers and may result in his being favored slightly over Uncle Edgar, who comes from a bang-up race at six furlongs and will appreciate the extra distance and longer stretch tomorrow. No rider has been named for Uncle Edgar. Last Road in Daingerfield Last Fall Bull Page won his only start at Gulf-stream Park, then finished third at Jamaica and showed nothing in Mondays Toboggan Handicap. The son of Bull Lea — Our Page is better placed in tomorrows feature, but is another without a jockey. Gaffery has not been seen locally since finishing far back in the Daingerfield Handicap at two miles and a sixteenth on closing day at Jamaica last fall. When at her best, she is among the leaders of the distaff division, but her form in 1950 was distinctly inferior to what she was able to display in 1949 when she earned 4,520 as a three-year-old. Ted Atkinson will be in the saddle tomorrow. She has the speed to be troublesome at seven furlongs. Danada Gift, who will be ridden by Warren Mehrtens, comes off two fair races, including a fourth in the Firenze Handicap at Jamaica. Betty Lamar is a three-year-old filly with abundant speed but little stamina. Tomorrows supporting feature is the N.Y.A.C. Norton Memorial, honoring a former president of the Athletic Club. This is a high-value claiming event at one mile, which will be run in two divisions as the fifth and seventh races. A. G. Vanderbilts once highly-regarded Stone Age is slated to return to action in the first division of this event with a 5,000 claiming tag bearing witness to his succession of injuries. He will be opposed by such familar horses as Rock Span, Riverlane, Free Strider, Best Doings, Teddies Imp and Le Faune. One of the most assiduously heralded of the younger generation is slated to make his debut in the fourth race, a dash at four and a half furlongs on the straight course for maiden juveniles. This youngster is Maine Chance Farms Jet Jewel. Good reports have been circulating about this son of Jet Pilot since early winter, trickling south from Aiken. S. C, to Miami and have continued since the stable moved north early in the spring. Eric Guerin will ride the colt in his debut, in which he will be opposed by eight other babes, including the C. V. Whitney pair of Escargot and Turks Cap.
