C, May 16. — The United States has asked other members of the North Atlantic Treaty organization to consider admitting Greece and Turkey to the alliance. Any member of NATO may veto the admission of another nation. Two Quakes Rock Italy MILAN, Italy, May 16. — Two sharp earthquakes rocked northern and central Italy early today, sending the frightened population into the streets and causing minor damage to several cities. The quakes were felt in Turin, Trieste, Southern Switzerland and Rome. 450 Russian Tanks Lost WASHINGTON, D. C, May 16. — The Communists have lost 450 Russian-built I T-34 tanks in Korea while knocking out only five U. S. medium Patton models, according to Gen. J. Lawton Collins, army chief of staff. Would Welcome Attack SOMEWHERE IN KOREA, May 16.— Maj. Gen. Hoge, commander of the U. S. 9th Corps, said today an all-out Chinese attack is imminent and his troops will "welcome it." Report Unrest in Poland WASHINGTON, D. C, May 16. — Increasing Russian controls over Poland are prompting mounting unrest, particularly in the port city of Stetttin, according to reports filtering through the iron curtain. Recent strikes and riots in the Baltic town have forced the Soviets to replace many Polish factory workers with Russians and Germans. Tito for Truth BELGRADE, Yugoslavia, May 16.— Marshall Tito told a delegation of Yugoslav journalists today to "report correctly the struggle for truth" and shun the Soviet practice of "not writing a word unless told from above." Fear Increased Cattle Rustling DENVER, Colo., May 16.— Western cattlemen feared for their herds today because they said beef price controls would mean an increase in rustling — "modern style." U.S. Okays British Note LONDON, England, May 16.— The United States has approved a note on the Anglo -Iranian oil dispute which Britain is about to send to the Iranian government, authoritative sources reported today. The note. understood to be firm in tone but conciliatory in its terms, was expected to be dispatched to Tehran within the next 24 hours. . Study Used-Car Tax WASHINGTON, D. C, May 16.— House tax writers considered taxing the sale of some second-hand cars today as a possible source of additional revenue to help pay rearmament costs.
