Howard, situated in Mendocino County, was sold today for 96,000 to Jee and Elwood Welch and their wives, Nina and Eunice, all of John Day, Ore. The Welches, wealthy lumber people, have been acquiring property in Mendocino County for several months, their attorney stated, and they are planning to build a new residence and make Ridgewood their home. They will probably log off all the timber and raise blooded Hereford cattle on the vast estate, he added. Negotiations for the sale of the property of T. J. Manning, San Luis Obispo trucking operator, for 05,250 had been completed by the executors of the estate and all that remained was official confirmation of the sale by Superior Judge Murry Draper. At this point, W. H. Bruner, attorney for the Welches, appeared and began bidding. At 96,000. Manning dropped out and the estate was knocked down to the Welches.
