Ascot Classic Has Nine To Vie at Seven Furlongs Mad Saint, With Gail Parker Up, Gets Call for Win End of Purse By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga IJalls, Ohio, May 8. — The rains paid another visit to this already wet area last night and horsemen were quite reluctant in entering their charges for Saturdays nine-race program. However, Raleigh Leigh, the racing secretary, wrote several extra races and the entries finally closed early in the afternoon. The feature race was to be a handicap but that was washed away and in its place Leigh has carded a seven-furlong number for allowance horses which has drawn an excellent field of nine three-year-olds and older. The race will be known as the Ascot Classic and will carry an ,800 purse. If the weather should happen to clear by tomorrow and the weatherman has an idea it will a near record crowd is expected to be on hand for the program. Those scheduled to parade postward are Mrs. Bet.ty Kennedys Sign It, Johnny Sur-bers Cortina, Marie Trussos Dotty N., Mr. and Mrs. Pete Maxwells Mad Saint, Mrs. J. McCumbers Mor-Snoozey, S. A. Coopers Abbe Pun, Stefan and Cashels Winter Land, Dace Schmecks Bill Keefe. and George Lauers Another Nip. Mad Saint, a six-year-old gelded son of Madero, will be seeking his second victory of the meeting and he will be ridden by jockey Gail Parker. His winning race over the track was tallied on May 2 when at seven furlongs he defeated Another Nip by one length. Since that winning effort the Maxwell colorbearer has raced once and wound up second to Cockpit beaten two lengths. Bill Keefe, from the large public stable of trainer Bell, has been somewhat of a disappointment since arriving here from Lincoln Downs. His best race was his first over the track when he wound up second to Sea Weather being beaten by but a half length. At the Rhode Island plant Bill Keefe accounted for two victories and in all has won three this season.
