Alfred Boulder Seeking Third in Row at Ft. Miami Six-Year-Old Has Neds Choice, Gay Order Among Rivals Today By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent FORT MIAMI, Maumee, Ohio, May 8. — Alfred Boulder, six-year-old gelded son of Alfred the Great — Alva Khan, who races for the Lincoln, Nebr., partnership of Boschult and Holthus, will seek his third straight victory at Fort Miami in the Detroit Free Press Handicap at a mile in the top event on a fine nine-race Saturday program. Racing fans who journey down from Detroit for the Saturday card will be treated to a fine race in the handicap as Alfred Boulder meets Sutters Luck, Gay Order, Open Way, Lieutenant and Neds Choice at the middle distance route. The last named are coupled in the entries under the training of H. J. Pitt, who has added Neds Choices ability in an effort to stop Alfred Boulders streak. One week ago Alfred Boulder sped a mile in 1:04% over a fast track to defeat Lieutenant and four others by a half length while held at third choice in the wagering. He gave the appearance of liking the particular distance and will probably enjoy favoritism from the Saturday patrons who remembered his effort. Those with slightly longer memories will recall that Neds Choice has two straight victories over route distances to enhance the possibilities of the Pitt-trained entry while Sutters Luck set a new track record of 1:13%, while winning a six-furlong sprint recently. Gay Order is a two-time winner at the meeting while Open Way was closing strongly at five furlongs last week. If Alfred Boulder does extend his win skein it will be after a hard battle with the combined efforts of this field. Bobby soxers in the crowd will have a chance to glimpse their favorite thrush, Tony Bennett, currently making a personal appearance in Toledo, as the crooner will present a trophy to the winner of a purse bearing his name.
