Queen Hopeful Sprints to Repeat Score In Wrens Purse at Churchill Downs Oval Passes Judges Stand Three i Lengths Before Just Barbara Under Howells Good Ride CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 8. — Hasty House Farms quick filly, Queen Hopeful, the get of Roman and Playful, raced to a well-deserved victory here this afternoon in the featured Wrens Purse. Unleashing an unusually high flight of speed during the stretch run under Red Howells good handling, Queen Hopeful sped to the end of the four and one -half furlongs with a three-length margin on her nearest rival, Milton Resseguets Just Barbara. Just a nose off the latter, Brent Harts Rollins Kappy, the early pacemaker, lasted for third, while Hustland Farms Scratchin Off saved fourth money in the field of nine two-year-old misses engaged for the Wrens. Queen Hopeful, who was making her fourth appearance under silks, scored her second straight success at the Derby oval, stepping the Wrens in :53% over a track termed good. Second choice to William Hills My Ethelyn in the tote, the Hasty House Farm juvenile returned straight pool backers 23 to 10. Rollins Kappy dashed to the front immediately after starter Reuben White sent the Wrens band away in good order and the Hart homebred set the pace until she was well inside the stretch. Queen Hopeful was no better than fifth leaving the upper turn while Just Barbara moved into the second slot as the pacemaker whirled into the stretch. During the final drive, Queen Hopeful came with a rush and, disposing of Rollins Kappy and Just Barbara in the last eighth mile, won going away. Just Barbara held on determinedly and outgamed the faltering Rollins Kappy for the place, while the latter was under pressure to take third honors from the fast-finishing Scratchin Off. Despite a decided threat of rain in the Falls City area, a crowd of approximately 7,000 spectators witnessed the sport at the Central Avenue course. Third Copy, a homebred son of Triplicate and Sun Tigress from the E. K. Thomas Stable, won her third of four Kentucky engagements this spring, driving to a length verdict in the six furlongs fifth race.
