Straight Face Is Sidelined; Damaged Knees Need Rest BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 8. — Trainer John Gaver said today that Greentree Stables Flamingo Stakes winner, Straight Face, would be put away until fall to give his damaged knees a chance to mend. The gelding finished unplaced in last weeks Kentucky Derby, tiring in the final quarter. His trainer believes this was not due to any lack of stamina, but to the fact that the son of Count Fleet had not been sound enough to be properly trained for the race. Gaver is now pointing Greentrees Lotus Eater for the remaining spring stakes. The Devil Diver colt wiU be tested for class in the Swift Stakes next week and if he answers that question wUl start in the Withers, in which he is to meet Native Dancer. Trainer BiU Winfrey said today that he definitely intends to start the A. G. Van-derbilt colt in that mile fixture.
