Arcaros Aim Is to Better Last Years Record Here Mounts Won 71,460 at 67-Day Arlington-Washington Season ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111.," June 18.— Eddie Arcaro, Americas master jockey, Saturday night heads for Chicago and a summer-long riding campaign at Arlington Park and Washington Park, in an effort to better his own record of "winning" nearly 00,000 in purses at the twin tracks in 1952. Last year, Arcaros mounts earned 71,-460 at Arlington-Washington, and he will start his 1953 bid on opening-day, Monday, at Arlington with several mounts, including the 5,000 Primer Stakes for two-year-olds. Along with other top-ranking riders, he will be shooting at nearly ,000,000 in stakes and purses which will be offered at the 67-day coordinated meeting. Arcaros final Eastern assignment will be aboard Jamie K. In Delaware Parks Leonard Richard Stakes on Saturday. Last summer, Eddie won 12 of the 27 Arlington -Washington stakes, including three which grossed 00,000 or better — the Classic, the American Derby and the Washington Park Futurity. By the time he hung up his 1952 tack, Arcaro had piloted his mounts to ,859,591 in earnings; had become the first American-born jockey to ride 3,000 winners accomplishing the feat at Arlington Park, June 24, 1952, and maintained his position as the all-time money-winning jockey with 3,783,221 in 21 seasons. Eddie, now in his 22nd year of riding, already has piled up 56,828 off 93 wins, 78 seconds, and 44 thirds this yeason. Meanwhile, Arlington Park continued to buzz with activity as hundreds of thoroughbreds poured into the stable area by train and van for the first of 36 days of racing on Monday. Among the latest arrivals were 13 thoroughbreds owned by Duntreath Stable and trained by Harold Simmons. Included in the string were the three-year-old gelding, Van Crosby, candidate for the Arlington Classic, and a trio of eligibles for the 45,-; 000 Arlington Futurity on July 25 — 1*11-j takeem, Red Cardinal and Tiger Cat. Red Cardinal also is named for Mondays Primer Stakes. Top star of the seven-horse unit shipped in by Mrs. Elizabeth Muckler is the four-; .year-old Heutel, an eligible for the 70,000 Washington Park Handicap on September 7, trained by Charles Grande, and a poten-i tial for the major handicaps carded at both Arlington arid Washington. Eight campaigners from the Louis Lee Haggin II. stable also were bedded down today. They included the three-year-old Classic eligible, Uncle Tom; Homestake, a Primer nominee, and Stone Cold and Sally Catbird, both eligible for Wednesdays 5,000 Artful Stakes for three-year-old fillies. Dave Papers Buddah Stable, a unit of six runners headed by Dr. Milton H., also a Classic nominee, arrived in good shape at Arlington yesterday. 1
