Nineteen Nominations For Puritan Handicap Consistent Larry Ellis Heads List for Suffolk Downs Feature SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 18. — A list of 19, representing the best of the handicap stars on the grounds, has been nominated for the fifteenth running of the 0,000 Puritan Handicap, which will be run over a distance of a mile and 70 yards on Saturday. Heading the list of nominees is the consistent Larry Ellis, who ran a bank-up second to Royal Vale in the recent 0,000 added Massachusetts Handicap. The shorter distance of the Puritan should not bother Larry Ellis a bit since this classy campaigner won a sprint race in his last outing before the Massachusetts Handicap. The .nominees listed to oppose Larry Ellis include Andre, Good Shot, Harpes, Little Step, Royal Marvel, Soldier Son, Blue Dare, Futuresque, Grandma Josie, High Head, Little Imp, Noch Eins, Ocean Breeze, Regal, Sailed Away, The Minor, Uncle Edgar and Villager. Andre, a much improved handicap threat who upset Larry Ellis in the Tomasello Memorial Handicap as a 40 to 1 outsider, looms as a real threat. Harpes, who arrived here from New York and won his only slart here impressively, is also highly regarded. Royal Marvel, the best three-year-old in New England last year, is rounding to top form and may be a keen factor Saturday. Good Shot and Ocean Breeze both figure in the contention. In addition to the Puritan on Saturday, there will be a sub-feature that will attract much attention — the Turf Writers Handicap, a mile and a quarter test over the popular turf course. The possible starting field may include Sneak Easy, Girder, Appointment, Dr. Rees, Tiny Admiral, Connie Rabb, Fourth Jack, Tip Off and Whitsuntide. A beautiful trophy will be given to the winning owner and the presentation will be made by Gerry Sullivan, president of the New England Turf Writers Association.
