Ten Seek Iroquois Purse Over Turf at Monmouth Thasian Hero Expected to Rule Choice Oyer Iswas-lgnite Entry . MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 18. — Eight prospective starters in next Wednesdays 5,000 Longfellow Handicap, and two outsiders, will stretch their legs over the turf course here tomorrow in the featured Iroquois Purse. Both events are at a mile and tomorrows results should give a good indication as to the line-up and ratings for the Longfellow. Thasian Hero, a veteran performer who was recently claimed by John L. McKnight, probably will be the favorite tomorrow, although it has been a considerable lapse of time since he has been raced over the grass. The "son of Attention is noted both for his speed and gameness and a 112-pound assignment marks a generous decrease from his recent imposts. Also figuring prominently is the Brookfield Parm entry of Iswas and Ignite, A. J. Millers Mondaval, Jaclyn Stables Bobs Alibi and Dor-Mar Stables Tip n. Only one race has been previously conducted over the infield course at this meeting, with the platers in this event running a mile and a sixteenth in much swifter time than the better horses have been able to accomplish over the unusually deep main strip. While the condition of the skinned oval is a subject of controversey among horsemen, it is agreed that the grass course is in the best condition of its history. A major improvement to the green has been the elimination of the horse j pathway to the paddock that bisected the oval just past the finish line. Thasian Hero has a recent record blemished only in his. last start, from which he emerged in good condition and can be disregarded in view of his former success. He will be ridden by Robert L. Stevenson. No riders have been named for the Brookfield duo, but either of the two are capable of carrying the banner alone, and pose a double threat if both start. Iswas was away to a poor start in the Oceanport Handicap here and, consequently, was not a serious factor. Ignite, returned to competition at Garden State after a long rest, won his first start with ease and was just beat- en in his last race.
