► I — : « I iU. i a ANGELO CILIO — Saddled Mon Baiser for her winning performance on yester-[ days Lincoln Fields program. - — - w » _ ■ • — — — — _ Chicago Tallies on Hawthorne Oval Gets Up to Defeat Amafox, Issybee WalmacFarmSophomore Has Head Margin on Runner-Up; Double to Adams, Sr. and Jr. HAWTHORNE, Cicero, 111., June 18.— Chicago, a tnree-year-old son of Alibhai, making his first start of the year in this territory and the fourth attempt of his career, proved a good bet for hunch players when he won the feature race here today. For a brief spell it seemed as if the colt, who was the second choice, would not make it, but he was steered to the inside of the two leaders in the last 50 yards to be up to win by a head from Amafox, with Issybee third. Rico Rancho was the favorite but merely walked out of the starting gate and made up some ground after trailing badly to the stretch. The race, which was known as the Kenil-worth, was at six furlongs for a ,500 purse, and nine horses, several of which had not appeared previously at this meeting, tried for the honors. Issybee set the pace, with Amafox close up, and they were all [| even at midstretch. They then raced closely y aligned to the final strides when Chicago 0 nipped them. Chicago, who was ridden by y Doug Dodson, paid .20 and his time was s 1:11%. He is owned by Walmac Farm. Attendance of 11,325 The attendance for the final Thursday y of the meeting was 11,325 and the track k *was fast. The Adams boys, father and son, accounted _ for a 4.60 Daily Double. Papa John rode the first winner, the favored Bogalusa, and son, John Ralph, took the second with Mon Baiser. Papa John did not ride in the second race. Twelve-horse fields went postward in each of the events. • Criteria, with Steve Brooks up, defeated a short field in the mile and a sixteenth J third race. Gracious Heart was the favorite, _ but Brooks sent Criteria to the fore e after going six furlongs, and the four-year-old filly won by tour lengths. Gov. Browning, a two-year-old son of 1 Goya n.— Seldina, by Insco, who was making his third start, graduated in the fourth 1 race, when he carried the Martin and Mc-Kinney silks made rather famous by Mr. Good here last year. Gov. Browning, ridden - by John Heckmann, battled it out to 3 the wire with Big Lou G., while Cadillac = King, recently claimed by William Hal 1 Bishop, was third. Gov. Browning paid 3. • Steve Brooks won his second race of the day and the second favorite scored when Agitate led most of the way in the fifth. , Sly Wink, who finished second, was the 3 only horse to offer any semblance of contention. - Agitate had two thirds and two seconds ■ at this meeting before clicking today.
