1 Sextet to Match Speed In Gates Mills Purse Half Bar Looms Favorite Off Second Back of Country Editor CRANWOOD PARK, Warrensville I Heights, Ohio, June 18.— Racing secretary Fred Burton has arranged two features for ! tomorrows racing here at the Miles Avenu,e course. The seventh race, to be known s the Gates Mills, will have a small, but select, field of six matching strides for a ,500 purse at seven furlongs. The co-feature will be at four furlongs and is for , horses running for a claiming price of ,000. The sprint offering will be run as the eighth race and has attracted a limit ; field. Trie Gates Mills will line up as follows: E. F. Lovelaces Half Bar, E. Davis Locadah, Hoover and Bryants Keen Tulip, Mrs. A. A. Dunbars Miss Ella, I. G. Davies Troubled Sea and G. R. Watkins Gerties Last. Half Bar will probably go postward as a lukewarm favorite in this event. He had an excellent race here on Saturday when he finished second to Country Editor at one mile and one-eighth in the first of the Sesqui-Centennial Series. Half Bar raced in closest attendance throughout and was only beaten a length and one-quarter. That was his initial outing over this track, but at Ascot the gelding had several very good races. Miss Ella, to be ridden by Ray Highfhoe, won her last race here at Cranwood when she defeated Bonziah Seniah by a head after a thrilling battle through the late stretch. That race was at a mile and one- sixteenth, but she appears equally as well suited at seven furlongs. Troubled Sea, running for a ,250 price tag, on June 15 defeated Excellence by a neck. In that race, the winner raced a trifle wide at the head of the lane and , straightened away soon thereafter and, when put down for the final drive, sue- cessfully held Excellence safe. Gerties Last has had several good races over the local course, but tired on Tuesday going six and one-half furlongs. Locadah ran against the best horses at Ascot Park, but did not fare too well. Keen Tulip will be ridden by Donnie Hoover, but does not figure too well in the Gates Mills. In the secondary feature, the following speedsters have been named overnight: : Ball the Jack, Dr. Caroline, Second Sight, Jeannie H., Ivy Boy, Cisred, Eleanor S., Vermont Son and Pair Brook. J. I. Losens Vermont Son, one of the few horses in this area that run well with- 1 out the benefit of a whip.should come right i back and make it two straight. In his last race here at Cranwood he defeated the tough Poised Valley by a nose in :47%, which is the track record. Betty Smart, Second Sight, Ball the . Jack and Bentrovato are expected to give the Losen colorbearer the most trouble. : 1 , ■ i ■ : i 1 1 1 1 j i : ! 1 j 1 1 1 i I i ] ] 1 1 1 1
