♦ : NATIVE DANCER-JAMIE K. DUEL IN BELMONT STAKES— The finish of the Eighty-fifth running of the Belmont Stakes last Saturday saw Native Dancer, three-year-old champion left, edging out Jamie K. by a neck following a thrilling stretch duel. The pair staged a similar finish in the Preakness on May 23, with the same margin separating them at the wire. Partridge Still of Opinion Jamie K. Is Match for Champion Native Dancer Slow Pace in Belmont Didnt Help Charge, Trainer States; Pair to Meet at Arlington DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 18. — John Partridge, the veteran trainer who has the Spring Hill Farms Jamie K., here for Saturdays Leonard Richards Stakes, still believes his colt is a match for champion Native Dancer despite three setbacks by Alfred Vanderbilts star this year. In last Saturdays Belmont Stakes, Jamie K. was beaten a neck by Native Dancer — the same margin that separated them in the Preakness. Their first meeting this season was in the Wood Memorial, won by "The Dancer" while Jamie K. never became a factor after a tardy getaway. "I dont think theres over a pound difference in the two colts," Partridge said today. "We lost to Native Dancer fair and square in the Belmont and I have no alibis, understand, although I do think the fact that there was no pace in that mile and a half did not help us any. But I still think we have a good chance to beat him. After the Leonard Richards, well go after Native Dancer again out in Chicago, and I wont be surprised if Jamie K. beats Mr. Vanderbilts colt next time." Native Dancer, of course, is not scheduled to race again until later, so he wont be around Saturday to meet Jamie K. in the 0,000 Leonard Richards of a mile and a furlong — for which Partridges charge looms favorite. Eddie Arcaro will handle the son of Crowfoot — Sea Elf in the Delaware special. Partridge said Jamie K. will be given a three-furlong blowout on the main strip tomorrow morning. James D. Norris, head of the International Boxing Club and owner of Spring Hill Farm, will be at Delaware Park with Mrs. Norris and probably his mother to see the Richards. Rokeby Stables Magic Lamp and V-Two, Mrs. Walter M. Jeff ords Maa-brook and a half dozen other three-year-olds loom as likely opponents for Jamie K., whom Partridge believes does his best running from behind. Jamie K., as a juvenile, finished first in the Remsen Handicap only to be disqualified. In Florida last winter, he developed a temperature of 104 but about two weeks later he ran in the Flamingo Stakes at Hialeah and finished fifth in a 16-horse field. In May, he "got good again" and won two allowances races at Belmont prior to the Preakness at Pimlico.
