President Rhee Frees North Koreans PUSAN, Korea, June 18.— -Twenty-five thousand militant anti-Communist North Koreans fled to freedom today from four allied prison compounds on an order from President Syngman Rhee defying United Nations* authority. The prisoners hopped over low barbed-wire barricades shortly af- ter midnight and vanished ,into the hills. Greeks Halt Chinese Drive SEOUL, Korea, June 18. — Greek troops killed or wounded 780 Chinese Commun- ists today in stopping a red drive down a main invasion route leading to the 38th parallel. The Greeks estimated half of the two battalions of attacking Reds lay dead or wounded on the slopes of outpost Harry following the furious four-hour battle. Red Reprisals in Berlin r-firing BERLIN, Germany, June 18. - -Russian squads went to work in revolt-torn East Berlin today. The official East Ger- man News Agency reported a West Berliner had been sentenced to death and shot on Russian orders. The Red radio told of con- tinuing arrests and promised "severe re- prisals." No Action on Impeachment WASHINGTON, D. C, June 18. — The House Judiciary Committee met in closed session for an hour today, but took no ac- tibn on a resolution demanding impeach- ment of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas. Chairman Chauncey W. Reed R-5 HI., leaving the session, told reporters that "in due course of time" the resolution — by Rep. W. M. Wheeler D-Ga.— will be referred to a subcommitee for considera-. tion. New NMU Wage Negotiations NEW YORK, N. Y., June 18.— The CIO National Maritime Union said today it was beginning wage negotiations with several small shipping operators. Contract talks with major ship owners have been broken off. M. Hedley .Stone, treasurer of the NMU, said the smaller companies responded to the unions of fer to bargain separately on the wage issue which led to union action threatening to idle 700 ships at Atlantic and Gulf Coast poses. Delay Decision on Justice Clark WASHINGTON, D. C, June 18. — The House Judiciary Committee postponed today until next week a decision on whether Supreme Court Justice Tom C. Clark should be subpoenaed to testify before an investigating subcommittee. Reject Curbs on Veterans WASHINGTON, D. C, June 18. — The House, reversingv an earlier decision, today rejected a proposed new curb on free hospital care for veterans whose ailments are not due to military service. The action, on a roll call vote, cleared the way for im-| mediate passage of a pared-down §5,284,- 369,664 appropriation bill to run the yeter-ens administration and three other government agencies in the 12 months starting July 1.
