Stan, an English three-year-old, has started four times in this country and won two races, including the Grassland Handicap at Arlington Park. His first outing was a victory in a grass sprint; next he was beaten by Guy, also on the turf. Then came his success in the Grassland, in which his former conqueror, Guy, was tenth, and in his last start, which was his very first on the dirt, he was unplaced in the American Derby, won by Native Dancer. Eddie Arcaro has been engaged to ride Stan, while John Adams, who was in the irons in his Grassland victory, will be aboard Ruhe. Ruhe, who is one of the highweights of the mile and three-sixteenths contest, ran a smashing race on the dirt last time out to be a bang-up second to High Scud in the one-mile Spartan Handicap, defeating Sub Fleet and Mark-Ye-Well, among others. The five-year-old is equally as good on the grass. It will be recalled that he was second to Wilwyn in the Washington, D. C, International at Laurel last fall. Ruhes best race this season was in the Equipoise Mile, which he won. Prior to that he took the Lincoln Handicap at Lincoln-at-Haw-thorne. He was fifth in the Stars and Stripes and the Laurance Armour Memorial, both taken by Abbe Sting. Abbe Sting is the other topweight. That racer and Ruhe will each carry 121 pounds, and Abbe Sting will again have Ronnie Baldwin in the saddle. The five-year-old had never won a stake until he took the Stars and Stripes, and his following success in the Armour Memorial placed him in the top rank of grass runners in this sector. He was sixth in the Grassland, which was at one and one-eighth miles. The added distance will be to his liking. Brush Burns Good Race in Grassland Brush Burn ran a fine race back of Stan in the Grassland. The four-year-old took a clear lead at mid-stretch, but was unable to last. On that occasion he spotted Stan four pounds. They will have equal weight of 118 each Saturday. Brush Burn, who will be ridden by Don Wagner, was unplaced in both the Stars and Stripes and the Armour and was third in the Arlington Handicap. Vantage won his last start, which was on the grass, and prior to that was third to Stan and Brush Burn in the Grassland. He was second to Jampol in an allowance race at Arlington and won at a mile on the dirt. He was also second to The Eagle on the grass. John Heckmann, who has been going well at this meeting, will have the leg up on Vantage, a former claiming horse. Golden Trends last start resulted in a fourth in the McCuan Memorial Handicap at Hazel Park. Prior to that he was the winner of the Curtain Down Purse, closing feature at the other Detroit track; He is a consistent runner and will be handled by Carroll Bierman. Last time out Jampol, who will be ridden by Eldon Nelson, was fourth in the seven-furlong Clang Handicap here. Cyclotron was the winner. At Arlington Park, Jampol defeated The Eagle and Vantage on the turf. Since setting his mark at Arlington Park, The Eagle has .been fourth in the Stars and Stripes, second in the Armour, and was fifth in the Grassland. Smoke Screen was seventh in the Grassland and seventh in the Spartan in his most recent efforts. Dance Nsing was fourth in the Grassland and fourth to Vantage last time out. He has a mile and an eighth turf success at Arlington Park to his credit. Gerald Porch will be on Smoke Screen and W. M. Cook will ride Dance Nsing. Guy, the lightweight with 102 pounds, will have Layton Risley, leading rider of the meeting, up. His victory over Stan was by far his best race. With 13 starters, the Meadowland will gross 7,500, with the winners share being 4,450. Second place is worth 0,000, third place ,500, and fourth place ,000. Each scratch will take away 00 from the gross and net values. Post time for the first race Saturday will be 1:45 p. m., and the Meadowland will come seventh on the nine-race program.
