MAJOR EVENT, off well, was close to the pace to the stretch, then took command on the outside, and although bearing out rather badly in the last eighth, was not in danger. ROYAL GUSHER, a forward contender from the start, saved ground where possible but was doing his best at the finish. ANGLEDOZER came strongly on the outside in the last furlong to finish well. SECOND STORY also closed with good courage. EVERGREEN made up ground. SOME GO was racing well at the end. RADIANT FOX had good speed for five furlongs, then tired. VIRGINIA OAKS was outrun early but responded when called upon to move between horses entering the stretch, and forging to the front in the last sixteenth, took a good lead and was hand ridden to hold BROOKSHIRE. The latter came strongly through the stretch arid was gaining on the winner in a good effort. POSSESS was always well up and raced steadily to the end. SATISFIED and PARKLEA were used up making the pace and tired in the stretch. GOLDEN APOLLO went wide in the stretch but was racing well at the finish. TENEDOS went to the front at once to set a good pace, but bore out badly in the stretch to interfere with DIDAPPER and DOCILITY and then went on to win narrowly, but was disgualified for foul and placed out of the money. DIDAPPER was moving strongly through the stretch when he met with interference, but was pressing the winner at the end. LITTLE BOOKIE came fast next the rail in the stretch to find a small opening and was close up all the way. STORMY WATERS went evenly. DOCILITY was moving up at midstretch when bothered by TENEDOS, then recovered to go well to the finish. AFTER BIM tired. RAPID JIM broke slowly and was never a contender. SUTHERN ACCENT went to the front at once, and showing fine early speed, drew away from PALTA after rounding the far turn and saved ground in the stretch then was hustled along to the finish when FAYS REAPER moved up. The latter was never far away and, after dropping back slightly in the stretch, was gaining at the end. SUBLINER lost ground on the stretch turn but closed with good courage well out from the rail. STYLE KHAL moved fairly well on the inside after entering the stretch but weakened in the final drive. KANAWHA was badly outrun while trailing but finished with a rush on the inside. FIRST REFUSAL was quick to leave the gate and was soon sent into a good lead, then increased his margin as FLYAMANITA began to drop back, but had to be hard hustled near the end to hold STOP GAP. The latter did not loom as a potential threat until the final eighth, then came very fast and was gaining with every stride. FLYAMANITA had no excuse, being close enough to the pace in the first part, then dropped back slightly and, coming again fairly well near the end. HEARTS AWAY was in close quarters while racing on the inside around the far turn and was forced to take up sharply, then came fairly well after recovering. SULEIMAN raced wide in the stretch. The latter was also outpaced early, but came strongly between horses in" the last sixteenth and just missed. EDNAS CHOICE was always a good contender and went well to the end NEVERLATOR closed with good courage. SIGNAL CODE weakened near the finish. MAHPLAY tired. HOOSIER RELIC had the most early speed, but quit badly in the stretch. IRISH- TUDOR bolted soon after the start and unseated his rider. . . Overweight Topper B., 1 pound. SHOTRAL was well placed in the early running, and moving in resolute fashion in the last quarter, forged to the front in the stretch and held HAPPY AGE in a drive. The latter was permitted to drop some distance off the pace in the first part and was unable to make up the ground, although finishing fast. FOXY WAGER went to the front on the backstretch to take a good lead, but weakened in the final drive. PERFECT SWEEP was going fairly well at theend.
