Canadiana Seeks New Stake on Turf Dozen Other Fillies In Miss America Outstanding Canadian-Bred Will Meet Miss Joanne and - Revolve at Atlantic City By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J., Aug. 28. Edward P. Taylors Canadiana, one of the outstanding Canadian-bred thoroughbreds of recent years, is the "big" horse here tomorrow afternoon in the inaugural running of the 0,000 added Miss America Turf Stakes, only major race in this country on the grass exclusively for three-year-old fillies. The one mile infield event has attracted a dozen other lassies and, should the overnight field remain intact, the owner of the winner will receive 7,000 of the 4,250 gross purse. Opposing Canadiana in the Miss America will be the following: Circle M Farms Revolve, Herman B. Delmans Judy Dunstan, .James M. Grieves Miss Joanne, ThomasJP. Cochranes Stepper Upper, Darby Dan Farms Fourdees, Gallagher and Williams Mi-Marigold, George A. Garretts Little Flirt H., Mrs. E. J. Hawthornes Miss Shadow, C. Ewing Tuttles Amphispirit, Philip Godfreys Unbending, Saggy Farms Tosca and Rappahannock Farms Senga. Triumphed in Queens Plate Canadiana is a double stakes winner this season, having accounted for the Queens Plate at Woodbine and the Test Stakes at Saratoga, and will be making her debut on the turf. She hasnt been worse than fourth in a half dozen starts this year and has earned close to 5,000, which is slightly more than she garnered as a juvenile.! In her last start, she was second in the nine-furlong Diana Handicap behind Sa-bette, who came back to down Grecian Continued on Page Fifty-Two Canadiana Seeks New Turf Stake at Atlantic City Oval Continued from Page Three Queen in the Alabama. Canadiana will be ridden in the Miss America by Bennie Green. Revolve, a daughter of Revoked, has nu merous good races to her credit this season, though boasting only two victories. She has been seven times second, a position she filled in her last start, which was in the. Miss Woodford at Monmouth Park. In that one she dropped a close one to Greentrees My Sin. Revolve will again be ridden by Nick Shuk, who handled her in the Miss Woodford. Judy Dunstan had little to recommend when she arrived here with the other Luro-trained horses, but she was an impressive winner in her lone local appearance. She rallied from off the pace to beat Will Be There and Garass, who were in a dead-heat behind her. The racing surface was sloppy on that afternoon, which could have been responsible for her good showing. Miss Joanne, a Challenge Me filly, is an invader from New England, at which point she accounted for Rockinghams White Mountain Handicap for her fourth win in nine starts. Another good effort in that sector saw her third behind Dictar and Landlocked in the Providence. Amphispirit and Mi-Marigold raced together here recently, with the former scoring convincingly, while Mi-Marigold turned in a dull effort to finish fifth as the favorite. Amphispirit came back to work impressively over the grass and could be the surprise of the field. " Stepper Upper is a speedy filly and could be the one to catch, from the No. 4 post position. In her last start she was third behind Winning Stride and Blue Rhymer, a pair of shifty fillies. Another with a good sprint effort last out is Little Flirt H., who was second behind Influence in 1:12 over this track.
