Mark-Ye-Well Assigned 128 Pounds Tops Washington Handicap Imposts Oil Capitol, Tuscany at 120 Next Starting Highweights; Race May Gross 70,000 WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., Aug. 28. Calumet Farms Mark-Ye-Well, champion of the handicap division last winter, who presently is in the midst of a comeback campaign, has been assigned top weight of 128 pounds for the Labor Day 70,000 Washington Park Handicap, it was announced today by racing secretary and handicapper Frank E. "Jimmy" Kilroe. Tom Fool, the Greentree Stables brilliant performer, was among those eligible for the rich event, but Kilroe did not have to assess the colt an impost after learning from trainer John Gaver that the hpres had been declared and would not be shipped here for the "Miracle Mile," which will be run on closing day of the Washington Park meeting, September 7. Although there are several others within striking distance of Mark-Ye-Wells role of honor, there is an eight-pound gap between the Calumet colorbearer and the next high-weighted probable starters, those being Hasty House Farms and Mrs. Harry Trot-seks Oil Capitol, and Mrs. Samuel M. Pis-torios Tuscany, both with 120 pounds. Original List of 147 Weighted, but not regarded as likely starters are Alberta Ranches, Ltd.s Royal Serenade, 123; Yolo Stables Deep River n., 122; William Helis, Jr.s Spartan Valor, 122; Charfran Stables Crafty Admiral, 120; and Calumet Farms Hill Gail, 120. The Washington Park Handicap closed November 1, 1952, with 147 nominations at 00 each, of which 111 remained eligible as of Febrauary 2, 1953, at 50 each, of which 83 remained eligible as of May 1, 1953, at 00 each. Of "thej 83 remaining eligible, it is expected that 12 to 15 will go postward. Mark-Ye-Well, who has been flashing gradual improvement in both his early-morning spins and in his races did not compete during the 36-day Arlington meeting. After completing his Santa Anita campaign on February 28, he sustained a hoof injury and was shelved until August 15 when he started in the Clang Handicap at Washington Park, finishing fifth. He followed that effort by finishing fourth to High Scud in a 0,000 over-nighter, the Spartan Handicap. He showed a good, game effort, one that impressed most observers.
