Coleman Signs Contract; Rejoins Teammates Today NEW YORK, N .Y., Aug? 28 UP. Gerry Coleman, New York Yankee infield-er who was discharged from the Marine Air Corps this week after flying 63 missions in Korea, signed a contract today for the remainder of the 1953 season and will join the American League leaders tomorrow in Cleveland. Coleman left the team to re-enter the service on April 30, 1952. He said he "felt great" and believed he would be able to play after 10 days of conditioning. Coleman played second base for the Yankees before going to Korea but said "Im ready to play any position Casey Stengel the Yankee manager wants me to play." Eventually, Coleman is expected to takej over the Yankee shortstop position from Phil Rizzuto.
