Sickles Image Displays Speed in Atlantic Tally Covers Seven Furlongs in 1 :23 To Beat Halter by Length, Half ATLANTIC CITY, Mays Landing, N. J,. Aug. 28. Clarence Hartwicks hard-running racemare, Sickles Image, became the holder of Atlantic Citys seven-furlong track record this afternoon when she won the featured Theta Chapter Purse in a rapid 1 : 23 flat. Cedar Farms Halter was second, a length and a half behind the winner and a half length to the good of William M. Wickhams Winning Stride. The intense heat which has prevailed in this area for the past two or three days hit a new high this afternoon with a resulting small turnout of 16,156 fans. Sickles Image, a five-year-old Sickletoy mare, was ridden by Owen Headley and paid .80 as a stout favorite over Halter and the others. The Theta Chapter was reduced in size with the withdrawals of -Four Chances, Elixir and Jubling, but the field lost none of its luster, for the race had always been considered a two-horse affair between the winner and Halter. The latter turned in his usual clever effort, but proved no match for the lightly weighted mare, who carried only 109 pounds as compared to Halters 121 pounds. It appeared for a second on the turn that Halter might steal the race as he shook off Sickles Image and teh others to attain a one-length advantage between calls. The mare was only toying with her rivals, however, and forged by the leader when asked to attain a clear advantage. Halter weakened in the late stages, but managed to hold the fast-closing Winning-Stride safe. There was a four-length gap behind the third horse., following which Craigwood Stables Faraway nosed out Jac-lyn Stables faltering Main Bout, lone three-year-old in the field. The previous seven-furlong track standard had been held jointly by Halter, Ata-lanta and Dark Royal, each of whom had required 1:23 while accomplishing victories earlier-in the meeting. Apprentice Al Tryon, who yesterday became the proud father of a girl, celebrated with a double here this afternoon, completing it astride Mrs. C. Silvers Latitude in the six-furlong fifth race. Latitiude moved from just eff the pace to wear down All in One and Bronze Warrior to pay 1.20. Tryons previous score was accomplished in the third race atop Magnolia Farms Brightella, a 3.20 chance.
