DeSpirito and Keene to Ride At. Las Vegas, Smith Reports LAS VEGAS, Nev., Aug. 28. Two of the countrys better known jockeys will be on hand for the opening of the Las Vegas Jockey Clubs new track here on Friday, September 4. This was announced by Lou Smith, president of the racing organization, who said that Tony DeSpirito, who set a new record for riding winners in a single year when he racked up 390 last season, arid Harold "Red" Keene, perennially one of the leading jockeys of the year and third to DeSpirito and Willie Shoemaker in 1952, will be here to accept mounts on the in-r augural card. Both DeSpirito and Keene are to remain here and ride through the entire meeting. Refuting rumors that the new club faces a shortage of horses, Webb Everett, special advisor to the Las Vegas Jockey Club, states that the track has assurances of ample racing material, in fact is anticipating an overabundance of requests for stabling quarters for the 64-day meeting.
