Even Dozen Face Topweighted Euclid Over Route of Randall Park Handicap Heutel, Jack Jr. Entry and Avocado Stout Threats for Mrs. E. H. Augustus Star By RONALD A. KRANCER Staff Correspondent RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 28. The second running of the 0,-000 added Randall Park Handicap at a mile and one-sixteenth headlines Saturdays excellent program here at beautiful Randall Park. The handicap is for three-year-olds and older and one of the conditions of the race is that all horses to be eligible had to be on the grounds as of July 25. This race will serve as an excellent stepping stone for the rich Buckeye to be run here next Saturday and has attracted a field of 13. Last season Mrs. Ellsworth H. Augustus Euclid won both the Randall Park and the Buckeye Handicaps. Euclid will once again try for a double score. The Cuyahoga Handicap No. 5 will also be decided over the grueling mile and six furlongs route. The Cuyahoga will follow the feature, being run as the ninth race. The largest crowd of the meeting, close to 15,-000, is expected to be on hand. Euclid has been assigned top weight of 124 pounds by racing secretary-handicap-per J. Gilbert Haus. Named to face the Augustus colorbearer are the Mrs. Elizabeth Muckler entry of Heutel, 116, and Jack Jr., 115; Taylor and Clapps Avacado, 115; Brown Hotel Stables The Gink, 119; Continued on Page Fire 1 ; : l . Sacks Rare Knave, 112; John B. Lattas Click-Click, HOj W. L. Huntleys Color Guard, lib, and Dorchester Farm Stables Kinsman, 110. Euclid, a gelded son of Fighting Fox, who was bred by Mrs. John D. Hertz, will probably go to the post as the slight favorite. In one race oyer the track Euclid finished a fast-closing third beaten by both Monda-val and Jack Jr., members of this field. However that race was at six furlongs and Euclid is far better suited over a longer distance. His best race of the year was a winning effort in the Longfellow Handicap over the grass course at Monmouth Park in June. Under the guidance of Nick Shuk, Euclid defeated Do Report by two lengths. Trainer Jim Radney has named the veteran Arnold Kirkland as Euclids rider in the Randall Park Handicap. The Muckler entry shapes up as a very formidable pair. Heutel has been improving steadily here lately and his last race was exceptionally good when he bested Color Guard by a length and one half running the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:43 which is only three-fifths 6f a second over the track standard which is held by Shag Tails. Jack Jr., in his winning score over Euclid came from off the pace moving between horses just inside the furlong marker and was drawing clear at the wire. The gelded son of Bold and Bad has not won recently at Saturdays distance, but the manner in which he won his last race gives a definite indication that he "will go on." Avacado, a stakes winning daughter of Hampden, scored a sensational neck decision, over Shag Tails last Saturday equaling the six-furlong track record of 1:10. She moved through to gain the lead midway up the backstretch and then held sway over Shag Tails while being fully extended by apprentice Hartack who will one again do the riding. Mestiza turned in her only poor performance of the meeting in her last outing when she finished next to last. Previously she had won the Scarlet Carnation Handicap and was beaten only a length in the Lake Erie Handicap. Her poor performance was caused by a nasal condition which according to trainer Harrison Searcy has cleared up nicely and she is expected to run a strong race on Saturday. Mondaval, to be ridden by Buck Thorn-burg, was carried a trifle wide in his last race by Elaine Ruth and it may have cost him the decision to Jack Jr. The son of Valdina Orphan who was bred by the Helis Stock Farm is one of the most improved horses on the grounds and could very definitely earn the major share of the 0,-000 pot. The Gink started only once thus far at the meeting and came from far back to take a four-length decision over Click-Click at onemile and one-sixteenth. In all the five-year-old gelding has won three times this season. He scored at Gulfstream Park beating Pensava and then at Louisville he bested Golden Trend.
