Card Hamilton Special In Two Sections Today Sudden News, Little Dawn Head Divisions; 11 in Yerian-AIIen By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent HAMILTON, Ohio, Aug. 28. Saturday racegoers at this half-mile oval will have a triple feature on the nine-race program. The heavy entries received caused the second running of the Hamilton Special to be split into two sections over the mile and five-eighths distance, while the sixth running of the Yerian-Allen Memorial at six and a half furlongs has attracted 11 sprinters. The Yerian-Allen honors the memories of Jack Yerian and his assistant, Henry Allen, who were killed in a tragic automobile accident after the conclusion of the 1947 meeting at Hamilton while the starter and his assistant were motoring to Columbus. The management each year offers a trophy to the winner of the Memorial, which, in former years, has been presented by the widows of the popular horsemen. A fine balanced field headed by the two-time winner Deanna will meet in the sixth running on Saturday. .The long-distanced Hamilton Special was introduced last season as a prep for the two mile and a sixteenth endurance classic a week later, and its popularity with the horsemen can be seen in the fact that 18 horses passed the entry box for the 13-fur-long test, causing a split of the race into two ,500 divisions. C. Andersons Sudden News heads the first divisiion of the Special, which goes as the sixth race of the afternoon. This daughter of Play dale Hot News ran the fastest mile and a sixteenth of the current meeting in 1:49 while galloping to a four-length triumph earlier in the week. This showing makes her a distinct standout over Mrs. Frances Flowers With Ease and the others in the cast. Bobby Edens will again handle the Anderson matron. j The second division of the Special goes as the ninth race of the afternoon and has drawn a slightly stronger field headed by W. Gamesters two-time winner, Little Fawn; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Maxwells Respectable and Otto Braschs Sob Story. Little Fawn has been very impressive in both of her route triumphs here and must be given strong consideration despite her 13 years of age. Respectable had the bad fortune to bump into Ironclad and Sudden News in his only two starts, but performed steadily in both outings while finishing second. The presence of Sob Story, who took the nine-furlong Queen City Purse at River Downs, comes as a surprise, for the daughter of Peace Chance Awaited had been supposedly sidelined following a poor showing in. the later River Downs handicaps. She is a long-distance matron who will certainly be heard from. Post time will be 2:30 p. m.
