Ad mirals Wave Scores First Victory of Year Favored Stratheden. Finishes Second in Narragansett Dash NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., Aug. 28. Doug Davis Admirals Wave, a fashionably-bred daughter of War Admiral from the Sun Teddy mare, Fly Off, arrived here from Randall Park Thursday morning and lost no time in annexing the initial victory of the season when she defeated six sophomore rivals in the Central Falls Purse. Ridden by jockey Marcus Pena, who accompanied the shipment from the Ohio sector, Admirals Wave was sent to the front entering the stretch and drew clear to register by a length and a half over G. R. Wynhoffs Stratheden at the end of the six furlongs. A like distance back E. A. Carneys Big Perry nosed out Lake Vista Stables Moondog for the minor award. Held at fourth choice in the wagering, Admirals Wave paid 0.40 and was timed in l:12y5 over a fast, but deep racing strip. Stratheden was the favorite in the Central Falls and became the fifth choice of the afternoon to fail. ApSTche Pass had the early speed as the seven sophomores left the barrier in the feature, but before reaching the end of the backstretch, Im Fred had overtaken the son of Apache and steadily drew clear along the inside. Big Perry and Admirals Wave were next in line, both under steadying restraint and waiting for the final quarter mile to do their running. The Davis miss was the quickest to respond when Pena set her down and she moved like a runaway freight to open a couple of lengths soon after the furlong marker was passed. Meanwhile, Stratheden, who was trailing down the backstretch, had settled into her best stride and made up ground with leaps and bounds, but the move was too late to. extend the winner. Moondog may have fared better had the veteran Claude Hooper been able to secure racing room along the inside as the Basileus II. gelding charged stoutly up along the inside of Im Fred. The latters rider would not take out with his mount still in contention and Hooper did a good job to keep Moondog from crashing into the fence.
