H., June 17. — While all attention was focused on Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Lingles Larry Ellis and Morris Sims Blessbull in the 0,000-added Bunker Hill Invitational Mile at Rockingham Park today, W. J, Beatties homebred Park Dandy stole the limelight with a record-shattering mile in 1:35% to better the old mark by a full second. The four-year-old -son of Bull Dandy— Park Avenue received a well-judged ride from Frank Solimena and came to the end of the event a half-length before the onrush-ing Larry Ellis. Another length and a half back, River Divide Farms Andre was third, clear of Blessbull, who was fourth. Blessbull Disappointing Choice Ideal racing weather prevailed at this countryside oval today and 9,564 attended. The bulk of the wagering was divided between the three-year-old Blessbull and Larry Ellis, with the former winding up an even-money choice. Park Dandy was overlooked and paid 5.20. By virtue of todays victory, Park Dandy, bred in Rhode Island, picked up 3,175 to add to the ,200 he had previously earned with a second and a pair of thirds in six tries. Park Dandy Lowers Mile Track Record Whips Larry Ellis and Andre In Rockingham Bunker Hill While Clocked in 1:35% Continued from Page One Hill Invitational Mile, Mrs. Lutza Smith, wife of the vice-president and executive manager of Rockingham Park, presented Jim Beattie with an appropriate trophy in the winners circle. Beattie was evry high in his praise of trainer Pat Brady who brought Park Dandy up to the best race of his career. Park Dandy was actually bred at B. A. Darios farm in Cumberland, R. I. Beattie purchased a group of mares from Dario and included in the sale was Park Avenue who was transferred to the farm at West Greenwich, R. I., where Park Dandy was foaled. While the actual purchase price of the deal was not revealed, it is safe to say that Beattie acquired a bargain. As a three-year-old Park Dandy won three races, was second a like number of times and finished third once to glean 5,725. George Handy, youthful trainer of Bless-bull, stated after the race he is convinced that his speedy three-year-old does not belong in company with older horses. Opens Up Four-Length Lead As was expected Blessbull displayed his sharp speed as he drew out from his older rivals and opened a four -length advantage as he reached the opening quarter in :22%. Th margin was three lengths as Blessbull negotiated the half mile in :45% and by the time the six furlongs, was reached in 1:10 flat a length separated the Sims sophomore and Park Dandy. Andre was a couple of lengths back at that point and gairig steadily with Larry Ellis beginning his charge on the extreme outside. By the time Blessbull was straightened away for the run through the stretch, Park Dandy had collared him and his next objective was to dispose of Andre who ranged up along the inside. The River Divide Farms stakes-winner gave his best but faltered -nearing the sixteenth pole and Larry Ellis became the only danger. The 127 pounds carried by the Lingle gelding was too much as against the 111 for the Beattie colt and despite the efforts of DeSpirito on Larry Ellis, the game challenger could not reach the leader.
